Ashtanga yoga is a meditation in movement that brings us into contact with ourselves, with our true essence. The practice of Ashtanga has been alive for thousands of years; it succeeds in strengthening the body and mind and encourages an ethical way of life.
“When I began studying the teachings of Ashtanga Vinyasa with Aly and Simon, I could not imagine that after so many year of convalescence I would be capable of regaining flexibility and strength in my body and mind. With their patience, equanimity and energy, they managed to transmit me the true essence of Yoga. I realized that despite being an intense practice, physical and dynamic, Ashtanga Yoga when practiced properly is beneficial for everyone, regardless of being flexible and in good condition or not- it is a practice that can bring us beyond that which is purely physical”.
The interior and exterior strength that can be acquired with this practice helps us in other aspects of life/activities that we partake in, such as sports (running, swimming, hiking, cycling, surf, climbing, skiing, etc), relationships and work. It reduces the risk of injury due to tension and rigidity held in the body, and brings stability to mental processes.

Irland, 1971 – Simon’s fascination with yoga began over ten years ago upon completing a solo journey on bicycle from his native Ireland to India. He returns to India nearly every year since then. After exploring various styles and traditions, he found Ashtanga to be what he was most inspired to practice and teach, initially due to its obvious benefits for surfing, biking and rock climbing, and subsequently due to understanding it as a path to meditation. Simon’s simple presence and experience make him an exceptional teacher and leader. In addition to teaching yoga, he is a savvy mountain guide (by foot and by bike) and surfing coach. He has published two books, one, Turning the Wheel, on the bicycle journey to India and In Darkness the Seed of Light, a novel based on Yoga Philosophy.

“I have been on two retreats now with Simon and Aly and I’m already looking forward to the next. For me it is the perfect escape from a hectic city life and always leaves a lasting effect for the weeks and months afterwards. I have been both to their home shala and the Casona de Con retreats and both are extremely tranquil and provide a great opportunity to get back to nature. The side activities like hiking, cycling, rock climbing massage and forraging only add to the whole experience. Aly and Simon are authentic and expert teachers and great ambassadors for a simpler life. Ticks all the boxes :-)”.
